Rich’s Dry Powder Bug Brew

May 31, 2014

If you would like to keep bugs out of your home but, don't want to use chemicals and poisons that may be harmful to you, your children or pets, here are a couple of easy solutions.

Box Elder Bug

The first is simply a mixture of inexpensive dry spices you should be able to get at a dollar store. Mix Garlic, Cinnamon and Cayenne Pepper powder in a bowl. Spread it at the base of your foundation outside. This will create a line that insects won't like to cross.

The second option is for a spray to use around the house to deter the little buggers from coming in. Simply fill a 1 quart spray bottle half way with white vinegar add in some herbs; mint, catnip, lavender, sage or thyme. Fill the bottle with water and let it sit for a day or two to combine.

Another mixture you can make is similar to the last but, instead of herbs, use oils. Fill the spray bottle about halfway with vinegar, add in the oils; mint spearmint, tea tree, lavender, lemon, lemongrass, clove, citronella or eucalyptus (You don't need all of them, use the scent you like best or combine a couple).

These will all keep bugs from coming into your home while not putting your family or pets in danger.
