RICH’S BREW

June 18, 2013

Rich Cowgill's recipe for a Spicy Spray to keep critters away...........

SPECIAL NOTE:  Be careful not to get the cut peppers or the liquid on your hands, and if you do be sure and wash it off really well before touching your face, eyes, nose, etc. or you'll find yourself in a world of hurt.

QUICK UPDATED NOTE:  I decided to whip up a batch of Rich's Brew last weekend, and used some Red Savina habanero peppers, along with the more common orange habanero, and skipped the jalapeño.  We had to evacuate the first floor because the fumes were so irritating to eyes and throats, even with doors and windows open.  Having cooked with hot peppers before, this was a first.  Ended up turning off the heat after 25 minutes, covering pot and letting it steep for hours; the resulting brew was definitely potent.

 3 habanero peppers

 3-4 jalapeño peppers

 1 onion

 2 quarts water

gloves for working with peppers (optional, but highly recommended)

Chop up the peppers and onion,  and add along with the water to a four-quart saucepan. Boil the brew down by half.

Strain the liquid and put it in a spray bottle, and then spray it around pots, plants, and anywhere else the critters like to go.
