Tips That Will Make Packing and Moving Into a New House Easier

January 6, 2020

It has been said time and again that moving into a new house can cause you a significant amount of stress.

While this may be true, moving doesn’t have to be that stressful. Sure, the whole thing will always be physically exhausting to a certain extent, but there are things you can do to reduce the amount of overall stress moving can bring.

Here are some packing and moving tips that will make packing and moving easier for you, and get you all ready by the time the professional movers arrive.

Declutter before packing.

So you have lots of belongings. The question is, do you really have to pack them all and bring them to your new house? In all likelihood, you own so much stuff that you no longer need, like clothes or shoes you haven’t worn in months or even years.

So think about donating unused and unnecessary items so you won’t have to pack them up and haul them over to your new home. If you’d like to make a little cash, how about holding a garage sale, one of the best ways to get rid of clutter? By decluttering before packing, your load when you finally make the move should be so much lighter.

Start packing way ahead of time.

Some things you can put off, but packing should never be one of them. Time flies so fast, and before you realize it, the moving trucks will be coming in tomorrow, and you’ve only done half of all the packing you need to do. You wouldn’t want to end up packing all through the night and totally wiped out by the time the movers pull over in front of your house.

Once you have finalized the date for your move, begin packing your things right away.

Use quality packing materials.

We know you can save some money by recycling packing materials. Still, if you want to better the chances of your belongings reaching their destination safely, you might want to consider new and sturdy boxes and other quality materials like bubble wrap, mattress bags, and zip tie bags.

Label your boxes correctly.

Not knowing which box holds something that you’re looking for can be a major source of stress when moving. To keep stress at bay, use permanent markers, and label your boxes right. You can also use stickers if you want.

Keep the essentials with you.

Your toothbrushes, medications, a change of clothes, important documents, your kid’s favorite stuffed toy, and other essentials should never be put in a box with the moving truck. Keep them with you in a suitcase or bag, right there in your vehicle so that you can access them anytime you need them.

Set up utilities for your new home.

Make sure that by the time you and your family get to your new house, electricity, water, heat, and even the Internet connection should already be up and running. That means you have to set everything up long before moving day.

Hire professional movers early.

Professional movers are going to make the entire relocation process so much easier. However, you have to book them way ahead of time, or you’ll probably end up not having anyone who can provide you with moving services on the scheduled date of your relocation.

You also have to do a bit of research to get the best possible value for your money. Get quotes from at least three moving companies in your area so you can compare their offers and find out which one can give you the best deal.

Follow the tips above, and moving day will go much more smoothly for everyone involved.
